“I Have Moved On” – Stephen Keshi May Not Return as Super Eagles Coach

Nigeria's coach Stephen Keshi carried by players
After his contract with the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) expired, Stephen Keshi told reporters that he is looking forward to going back to his family and facing fresh challenges.
It was later reported that the NFF was in talks with him on coming back at the coach of the national football team. Keshi’s alleged demand was better pay and a few additions to continue as coach.
He was previously paid $30,000 a month.
We have been waiting to hear the news that he is back, but nothing yet.
It could be because of the recent drama in the NFF which saw Aminu Maigari impeached as President and later reinstated, as well as the recent fire outbreak at the head office in Abuja.
Whatever the delay is, Stephen is done waiting.
In a chat with the BBC Sports, he says “I have moved on. I can only wish the country well for the future.”
the 52-year-old added that;
“I’ve had about seven countries approach me in the last two months but I kept them all away.
There’s a game in two weeks (Nations Cup qualifier against Congo) but no-one is thinking about it and at the same time they expect you to win.
I understand the ongoing crisis facing the federation but the national team should not suffer from such at this crucial stage.
Sadly, I also think attention is focused more on the upcoming NFF elections and the national team is simply not a priority.
I love my country and I am aware of the dream our fans had of me taking this team to the next level.
While acknowledging the efforts of some people involved in the negotiation, I think others probably have other important things to do.”

Tiwa Savage isn’t Making a Pregnancy Announcement Soon

Is one of Nigeria’s most loved songstresses pregnant? File this under so false.
Earlier in the week, Tiwa Savage got quite a number of people talking.
When the “Eminado” songstress arrived DJ Jimmy Jatt‘s 25th Anniversary Celebration event in Lagos, she was spotted rocking a flared dress.
And although it was a stylish choice, it is not the figure hugging numbers we are used to seeing the singer in.

She also posted on her official Twitter page, “The spirit of a mother #mrsteebillz #marriedandtaken.”, which further sparked reports.
Reporters at Punch reached out to her hubby/manager Tee Billz to get the real scoop, but his assistant named Thompson replied.
“Tee Billz travelled to the US but Tiwa is currently in Nigeria. That story is false, it is not true. People would always write what they want to. It is the way the dress is. The story is totally false.”, Thompson said.
So you may want to save your baby name suggestions for a little bit.

"I'm sorry for the Adadevoh's pain" - Patrick Sawyer's widow says

Decontee Sawyer, the widow of late late Liberian, Patrick Sawyer, the man who brought the deadly Ebola disease to Nigeria, says she regrets the death of Doctor Ameyo Adadevor of First Consultant Hospital, who died of the Ebola virus on Tuesday August 19th after being infected by Sawyer.

In an email to Leadership.ng, Mrs Sawyer, who lives in Minnesota, USA, said she's pained that her late husband caused so many others so much pain both in Liberia and Nigeria.
"I share the pains that the family members of the Nigerian doctor are going through. It is just a pity that Patrick had to cause this damage both in Liberia and Nigeria.” Continue..
"I want to reach out to them and express how deeply saddened and sorry I am for their loss and their pain. I do apologise if my words have cost anyone who is grieving more pain. I fall on my knees and ask God for his healing power for all of those who are still infected with Ebola. I pray for all of the families whose loved ones were taken away by this merciless killer Ebola, especially those affected by Patrick’s actions.
“Ebola didn’t start with Patrick in Liberia, as we both know. Ebola was in Liberia from a traveller from Guinea since February of this year. The government knew about it and did nothing. Many Liberians, including me, called out to the government then to close the borders. They didn’t do so until one of their own, Patrick (Sawyer), died in July.
“Many people died before Patrick and their lives were just as important. That is my frustration. Ebola didn’t have to go to Nigeria, Africa’s most populated country, had the Liberian government taken drastic actions sooner. I, too, have family members and friends in Nigeria, and now they are at risk because of Patrick’s actions.
“In spite of my anger and disappointment with him, I don’t believe that he did this with evil intent (I could be wrong). I believe his actions were that of a desperate man. And sad for everyone involved, Nigeria was closer than the U.S. This is just my take on what he could have been thinking (of course, I could be wrong).
“My regret is that I was so caught up in my own pain and frustration, that I neglected to see the pain of the innocent people both in Liberia and Nigeria who are affected by Patrick’s actions. For that, I am deeply sorry. The last thing I wanted to do was to cause them pain. It is a pain I know. It is a pain I don’t want them to have.”

Ebola: Fiancé Of Late Nurse, Obi Ejelonu, Admitted To Hospital With Suspected Case

Reports have surfaced that the fiancé of nurse Obi Ejelonu, also called Justina, is suspected to have contracted the Ebola virus from his late wife. The nurse from the virus died after treating Liberian Patrick Sawyer.
Late Nurse Obi Ejelonu died from Ebola last week
The suspected patient, whose name was given simply as "Dennis", is the third suspected case of Ebola admitted in the last three days. He allegedly suffered from a high fever three days ago but said he had recovered.

The Ameyo Adadevoh I knew By Chidi Anselm Odinkalu

I spoke to Ameyo Stella Adadevoh, the senior Consultant Endocrinologist and Physician, who has just died of the Ebola Virus Disease (EVD), to schedule a previously agreed medical review. It was a Saturday.
We agreed that I would come in the following Monday, July 21. On 20 July, Patrick Sawyer, the index case now thought to have brought EVD into Nigeria, was admitted into the hospital where Ameyo worked.
On 21 July, I attended the appointment as agreed. She had completed the rounds where she reviewed the cases, including Mr. Sawyer. She saw me shortly after mid-day. As always, it was professional and detailed. Unknown to me, Sawyer was already in the hospital. Unknown to her, he was already terminally symptomatic with EVD. We managed on that day to do my review and, curiously in hind-sight, fit in a conversation about life, death and dying. As she would herself later narrate with her Chief Medical Director, Dr Benjy Ohiaeri, Mr. Sawyer, on admission “denied having been in contact with any person with EVD at home, in any hospital or at any burial.”
So, on 21 July, Mr. Sawyer was being managed for Malaria. He had tested positive for Malaria parasites. It would take another day before the full possibility would hit home. By then, she’d probably already had fatal exposure to the virus. But, once she struck upon the possibility that Mr. Sawyer was EVD-positive, Ameyo “immediately isolated/quarantined the patient, commenced barrier nursing and simultaneously contacted the Lagos State Ministry of Health and the Federal Ministry of Health to enquire where further laboratory tests could be performed as we had a high index of suspicion of possible Ebola Virus Disease. We refused for him to be let out of the hospital in spite of intense pressure.”
Her suspicions proved correct. That is Ameyo! If the occasion demanded it, she could be martial with care and sweeping in her command. She had earned her right to calibrated authority. The consequences could have been unfathomable if Mr. Sawyer had ended up in a General Hospital, for instance. It required someone with her capabilities and pedigree to be able to take the measures needed to firewall Mr. Sawyer and limit the contamination that he would have inflicted. For that, she paid with her life. Ameyo became a doctor at 25.

Late Dr. Stella Ameyo Adadevoh She had been my personal and family doctor for over 15 years. Her roots were both deep and grand. She is one of the few Nigerians the face of whose recent ancestor adorns one of our currency denominations. Her Great-Grand Father, Herbert Macaulay, is one of the most celebrated founders of modern Nigeria. Her father was himself a distinguished physician, academic and university administrator of considerable distinction. Not that any of this mattered much to her. When Ameyo qualified as a doctor in 1981, I was still a kid in High School. Yet, I could get away with calling her “Ameyo”. To many of the children, she was “Auntie Ameyo”. She simply wanted to get things done, and done right.
That was important to her: doing things right. In her field, Ameyo took no prisoners and tolerated no half measures. If you came to her with issues outside her field, she knew the experts to. If you showed up hoping to get worshipped, you were in the wrong shrine. There was something about her directness, professionalism, commitment to knowledge and curiosity, and irreverence that made Ameyo deserving of respect well beyond the calling of the cloth. She loved her calling and was totally dedicated to it. When my kid brother died in June 2006, my Dad suffered terribly. She took charge of his management and inspired him to re-discover joie de vivre. While she battled for her life this past week and more, my Mum and Dad in Imo State joined in the legion of Nigerians who prayed and wished for a different ending. Like many people who had passed through her, Dad’s testimony is quite simple: “that woman saved my life!”. Nigeria is lucky that Mr. Sawyer ended up in the care of Dr. Ameyo Stella Adadevoh and the team she led.
A less able lead or a less dedicated team could have let itself and the country down. Unlike many of her peers, Ameyo didn’t play god. Nor did she celebrate not having read any medical journal after Medical School. On the contrary, she knew her specialty and invested heavily in being up to date with the latest journals and skills in it. She was always honest about where the limits of her skills lay and would happily refer cases to colleagues with the requisite specialty whether in or outside Nigeria. She had one heck of a professional Rolodex! All of us who had the privilege of ever having been managed or attended to by her would testify that this was a professional of exceptional thoughtfulness, ability, diligence, and application. The many colleagues whom she mentored or supported would too. We’ve all lost an outstanding person, support, redoubt, and professional. Ameyo had one of the sharpest minds you’d ever meet. She was at home discussing experimental physics, molecular biology, public health, lip-stick, the science behind bra-sizes, or different genres of music. She loved life. She was the mother of a son whom she loved more than life itself and lived with a mother to whom she was devoted.
The void she leaves behind cannot be filled. They deserve our thoughts, care and prayers. Because of the circumstances of her passing, there may be no grave to memorialize Ameyo. This is why we must give careful thought to how to do so. We must hold up and celebrate her example of selfless professionalism to the point of death. And, as a people, we must be grateful that someone like her is still in supply in our country. Ameyo always had the Hippocratic Oath hung in front of her on the left wall in her consulting room, just beside her certificate.
I once asked her why? She said if you don’t believe (in) it you shouldn’t be here. She died true to her oath and calling. Our country owes her a debt we can never repay. She was truly and exceptionally special. Professor Chidi Anselm Odinkalu is the chairman of the National Human Rights Commission

Real reason we broke up KUSH — Lara George

Lara George began her musical journey in her Alma-mater school choir- Queens’ College Yaba Lagos. Years later, she transformed into a professional whose inspirational style of delivery helped define the new sound and direction of Nigerian gospel music.
Lara George

While studying Architecture at the University of Lagos Akoka, Lara joined the fellowship music team on campus, where she met Ty Bello, Emem Emma, and Dapo Torimiro . Then the musical group called KUSH, was born.
But just when the group was about to have a firm grip on the pulse of gospel music in the country, the unexpected happened – they broke up! It was a shattering experience not only to the trio of Ty, Lara and Emem but also to their fans.
“I was a bit upset about the KUSH break-up. I felt like I had put my whole life on hold just to accommodate KUSH but it ended that way, this made me decided never to do music again. (smiles) Of course, as you know, that decision did not exactly last long” Lara told Potpourri in chat recently.
Ten years down the line, not much has been offered about what actually caused the break-up. The much any of the four partners have ever let off was saying, ‘‘It just happened. We grew apart and it I think it happened for the better’. But  Lara, the  “Ijoba Orun’ crooner has eventually broken the ice. “Music at the time when KUSH started was a very difficult thing to do particularly for three young professionals with so many career options. It was tough keeping things together at that time because the pressure the financial uncertainty brought took its toll on us as a group and everyone started to drift apart until we were no longer able to keep things going” she said
However, Lara re-launched her music career with a solo debut album titled ‘Forever In My heart’ with Hit Single “Ijoba Orun’. The much-celebrated album earned Lara several nominations and awards such as ‘Voice of the Year 2008’ Nigeria Music Awards, as well as ‘Song of the Year’ and ‘Female Artiste of the Year’, Nigeria Gospel Music Awards 2009.

US doctor with Ebola to be released from hospital today

Dr Kent Brantly, the American doctor who contracted the deadly Ebola virus in Liberia while working as a missionary in the country will be released from Atlanta's Emory University Hospital today August 21st after being successful treated.

According to the spokesperson of the hospital, Vince Dollard, Dr. Kent's blood samples came back negative for the virus after undergoing proper screening for two days. Dr. Kent is expected to give a statement regarding his discharge later today at a news conference before leaving the hospital.
Dr. Kent and another US missionary Nancy Writebol contracted the disease while working to fight the outbreak in Liberia. After they contracted the disease they were taken to an isolation unit at Emory University Hospital, where they were treated with the experimental drug, ZMapp.

Many Lagos Sites Targeted, Says Arrested Airport Bomber To Police

Though he is now in police custody, and his name is being withheld, the man Lagos airport security officials grabbed and detained late Monday has reportedly revealed a widespread Boko Haram plot that has targeted at least a half dozen sites across the city.
Suspected Boko Haram bomber arrested in Lagos
In a story reported by both THISDAY and the Punch newspaper early Tuesday, the 22-year old disabled man admitted in a police confession to being part of the Boko Haram plot to destroy key sites at the international airport. He was apprehended Monday with canisters secured around his body and neck, that police say were explosives he was about to detonate.
The man’s movements at the airport created suspicion among the airport security personnel. They then focused their attention on him, and alerted police, which led to his arrest shortly afterwards. The National Airport Management Authority facility at the airport was believed to be the target.
Travelers, police, security personnel, and others at the airport were lucky this time.
They were lucky in because the attempt to detonate the bomb that was attached to his neck and body would have been successful, said police, but for the inability of the explosives to detonate when they were supposed to. In short, it was a glitch in the man’s portable bomb that failed to go off, said an airport security official who spoke off the record to a handful of reporters.
“He was caught because when he tried to set off the explosives, there was a hitch. He (then) ran back to an obscure place (at the airport) to check it out, and fix it,” said the security source.
The source furthered, “his suspicious movement and the frustration evident on his face aroused the suspicion of security operatives attached to National Airport Management Authority.”
What is now slowly emerging are details of a wider plan by Boko Haram to bomb sites across Lagos. It is unclear if the man now in police custody is telling his tale of failed bravado to mislead police and intelligence agents, yet all leads are being tracked down, security and police officials acknowledge.

Ebola: Three Infected In Liberia Recovering "Remarkably" After Receiving Zmapp Treatment

A trio of Liberian doctors who were infected with the Ebola virus have drastically improved, since they began taking the experimental drug ZMapp on Thursday of last week.
Sylvester Jusu, a Red Cross volunteer, wears a suit and goggles to protect himself from contracting Ebola.
This news is a positive development which arrives the same day as the World Health Organization (WHO) disclosed that 1,229 have died from this outbreak of the rapidly-spreading virus. Over 2,000 cases have been reported.
Liberia's minister of information, Lewis Brown, said the limited number of ZMapp doses the country received were given to one Nigerian and two Liberian doctors, all people who were involved in caring for sick patients.
The experimental treatment, developed by a US-based lab, was first administered to two US health workers.
While it has proved successful in these instances, it has not been 100% effective. A Spanish priest died of the disease earlier this month after taking ZMapp.

Ebola: Why U.S. Won’t Give Nigeria Experimental Drug, Zmapp — U.S. Ambassador

The American Ambassador to Nigeria, James Entwistle, on Monday said his country was not yet in a position to make the Ebola Disease experimental drug, Zmapp, available to Nigeria.
Mr. Entwistle said during a visit to the Nigerian Minister of Health, Onyebuchi Chukwu, that the drug was not yet available in sufficient quantity to go round all the countries requesting it.
The ambassador did not say when the drug would be available for Africa’s most populous country.
He only advised the Nigerian health ministry to focus on isolation, screening and prevention.
Mr. Entwistle commended the efforts of the Federal Government in curbing the spread of the Ebola virus in the country.
He said the aim of the visit was to discuss further on the anti-Ebola cooperation between the U.S government and the Nigerian government.
The ambassador also praised the work done at the emergency operation centre and the isolation centre, saying he understood that they were working hard.
“You have all seen the headlines over the weekend, this is an issue that we have to keep working hard on, it may be with us for a while but there are some encouraging signs.
“Your government is doing a good job on contact tracing; I noticed when I flew back here on Thursday night into the country, before I left the plane I filed in the questionnaire.
“I was very impressed because I had to put in my seat number which is a very good idea, so that if you have to trace the guy who was seating next to me you will know where I am.
“I have been very impressed by this thing so I encourage the government of Nigeria to keep at it, which I know they will,” he said.
Mr.Entwistle said the two countries had a broad partnership to keep collaborating, cooperating and working hard to make the world a better place.
He said he could not think of a more important example of cooperation than the Ebola cooperation.
Speaking during the visit, the Minister of Health, Onyebuchi Chukwu, said the Nigerian Government was withholding its approval for the Anti-Ebola drug Nano-Silver produced by a Nigerian because it did not meet the requirements of the National Health Research Ethics Code. He said that the Nano Silver drug, which was made available to the
Emergency Operations Centre in Lagos on August 14, did not meet basic research requirements.

According to information gathered, the suspect was able to gain access under the guise that he was a physically-challenged, which truly he is.
Security men of the agency, sensing his unusual movement while trying to press an object, got him apprehended, upon which he was caught with an explosive detonator.
The airport police command was promptly alerted, while the suspected bomber was handed over to them.
The suspect was then taken to the Beesam police station, Airport command, where he is currently undergoing interrogation.
Reacting to the incident, NAMA refuted that the suspected bomber was arrested at one of the its facilities at the international wing of the airport.
According to a statement by its General Manager, Public Affairs, Supo Atobatele, the suspect was making phone calls on the airport road, close to CENTREX, an annex office of NAMA, when he was apprehended by security personnel.
“The basic truth, however, is that the said suspect was on the ground making calls when the agency’s security personnel accosted him.
“His incoherent explanation exposed him to the security personnel who later found on him some devices suspected to be explosives,” the statement read.
The Managing Director of NAMA, Mr Ibrahim Abdulsalam, in his reaction, commended the security personnel for their vigilance.

Why I'm not married-Halima Abubakar

When asked about her reason for not being married till now,Halima told Encomium
"Will I ask a man to marry me? Is it not when you see the man that you want to settle down with that you can decide to marry? You can’t just settle down with anybody because you need to marry. I don’t want to go into marriage and rush out of it. There is a lot of mistrust and we also have so many irresponsible men so to speak. There are lots and lots of liars among men out there. And if they meet a girl that really loves them, they won’t know because they are used to lying.
I am not hoping. It’s going to happen when it will happen. I am not searching for a husband. So, don’t quote me on that. I am just going to tell you, and as usual I don’t talk about any relationship. I am just giving you a general insight of what life is about."
